Pick-A-Little, Talk-A-Little

Season 6, Episode 4.
Snacks for my viewing!

Synopsis: Carrie is a dating a handsome, funny, writer by the name of Jack Berger. she gets him to meet her crazy crew of girlfriends and it goes great, he even give Miranda advice on her confusion on how a date went: HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU. Wow, that one burned me like it did the girls, but it was an awakening for Miranda. Things start to go south for Carrie when fun Berger turns into brooding Berger when she critique’s his book in a funny lighthearted way. Charlotte has a huge fight with the man she turned Jewish for. Also, Miranda gets harassed by a sandwich!

discussion: Okay firstly, I understand Carrie’s excitement/anxiousness about Berger meeting her friends because when a women introduces a new guy to her friends it’s a keep him or dump him situation. The girls who know me best will definitely let it be known if a guy is not right for me, so I understand the anxiousness this can bring. Though, in Carrie’s situation, it’s probably quite different since she may be a bit nervous for Berger to except her wild friends. As she should though, because Samantha starts off by talking about her sexcapade with her booty-call and how they role-play– GREAT OPENER. Berger actually loves it though and he even inserts himself to give Miranda a tip: if he doesn’t set up a second date “he’s just not that into you.” I have to say that hit hard because it takes all the hope out of women thinking he may call after a first date. I guess he just simplified it for us hopeless romantics, and gave us a simple solution to our overthinking, less time wasted!

When guys get their ego knocked down a level, it is never a good time. Carrie made a joke about a woman in his book wearing a scrunchy and how New York women don’t wear scrunchies out— which his main character did. Why do men act like this? like they tease all day but once women hit a nerve it’s shut down time for them, unfair right?! This definitely made me dislike Mr. Berger. Of course Carrie had to spend the entire episode apologizing and questioning if she should of just “shut the fuck up” and honestly, I don’t think she should be beating herself up so much. When you’re in a relationship with someone I feel like you shouldn’t feel like you’re walking on egg shells all the time, lighthearted jokes here and there shouldn’t make your partner completely shut down and treat you like shit… but then again what do I know, I haven’t been in relationship in YEARS.

Okay, lets talk about newly converted Jewish Charlotte, who has just changed her whole religion so MAYBE her boyfriend will propose. Charlotte has always been kooky but this is a little too naive on her part, but hey this is the woman who will not give up on love and marriage. With her newly inherited Jewish traditions she cooks Harry a extravagant dinner and all he wants to do is pay attention to the damn Mets game– MEN! so of course like any person would she blows up on him and it turns very bad. She states that any guy who looks like him should be grateful to be with a woman like her (ouch), this was not a good look for her at all. You don’t ever want to hear from someone you love that they look at you and the relationship that way. That scene was the cringiest of the episode because her words cut like a knife and I love Harry!

Overall rating: I actually really enjoyed this episode, all the story-lines were fun and had meaning. I just wish Carrie wasn’t so catering to Berger, maybe that’s because I never was such a huge fan of him. Also, this episode gave us the iconic feathered hat that Carrie wears, so I love that. I would give this episode a 8.7 of 10.
